A tough two year-old who trained on as an older horse, The Odyssey combines early speed with longevity. First sent to the races as an October two year-old, The Odyssey ran second on debut then won his next start. After a short break, he won the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes, then ran third to eventual Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Exhilarates. After the Magic Millions, The Odyssey rounded out his two year-old season with two wins, taking his juvenile record to four wins from seven starts.
The Odyssey won four more races as a three year-old, then another two at four to take his record to ten wins from 34 starts with another eight placings and earnings over $1.7million.
A son of young exciting Queensland based sire, Better Than Ready, who will stand for $33,000 this season, who has already left six stakes winners including classy group winning two year-old Alpine Edge. All of Better Than Ready’s stakes winners were also winners as
two year-olds who are training on as older horses.
The Odyssey is out of a Snitzel mare, and Snitzel is making his mark as a broodmare sire now with the likes of Golden Slipper winner Mossfun and fifteen other stakes winners. The Odyssey’s family includes Champion Sire Green Dancer (Nijinsky), with The Odyssey’s third dam being his three-quarter sister, Northern Valley (Northern Dancer).
