Bhima will consign a draft of 18 yearlings at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, bringing a close to the major yearling sales for 2020 with buyers commenting on their exceptional standard of horses set to enter the sale ring.
“When you look at the draft as a whole there are some very good sires with strong pages, which is what you come to expect from the Easter sale,” commented Mike Fleming, owner and manager of Bhima.
This year’s draft features progeny by exciting Japanese sires Deep Impact (JPN) and Lord Kanaloa (JPN) as a result of mares being bred on southern hemisphere time in Japan.
Following Tagaloa’s (Lord Kanaloa) win in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, Lord Kanaloa’s profile has been boosted in Australia which bodes well for Lot 74, a filly by the emerging sire poised to take over the mantle from Deep Impact.
The second foal out of Miss Ivanovic, who is a sister to stakes winner Body and Soul and half-sister to Champion Miler in Hong Kong Gold-Fun, this filly is a half-sister to the Deep Impact colt Nowitzki who Bhima sold at the sale last year for $950,000 to Aquis Farm.
“This filly is in the same mould as Nowitzki, she’s not overly big but is very neat with a great action,” said Fleming. “She foaled in Japan and came down in July, and it’s been great to watch her improve all the way through since she arrived in Australia.”
It’s the first year that Bhima have consigned yearlings on behalf of Robert Crabtree of Dorrington Farm, with the breeder having had an abundance of success on the racetrack. Lot 201, a colt by Fastnet Rock out of stakes placed mare Silverbeat, was bred by Crabtree and is a half-brother to four stakes winners already – including current star Bella Martini.
“This is a very strong family and the colt himself is a very neat, strong horse with a forward-thinking attitude,” commented Fleming.
The draft overall features plenty of sire power, including Lot 65 who is by Australia’s leading sire I Am Invincible. Out of an unraced Encosta de Lago mare, who is a half-sister to the wonder mare Winx, this colt’s page is littered with black-type.
“He’s a very strong, medium-sized colt with great action and strength about him,” Fleming said. “It doesn’t look like he will take long to hit his straps and he’s been a very easy horse to manage and prep all the way through.”
Lot 179, a colt by Exceed and Excel, is out of Saddaqa who is half-sister to dual European Group 1 winner Laverock. He also hails from the family of Champion 2YO Pierro who was Australia’s Champion First and Second Season Sire.
“This a real stallion pedigree,” said Fleming. “He’s by proven sire Exceed and Excel who can do no wrong.” Bhima’s draft also features a daughter of Group 1 winner Chenille, catalogued as Lot 382. By sire sensation Snitzel, this filly has a lot to offer.
“She’s by proven sire Snitzel who’s having a great run at the moment,” mentioned Fleming. “This is a strong, medium-size filly with a great walk and nature.”
Overall, Bhima’s draft will offer progeny by Deep Impact, Dundeel, Exceed and Excel, Fastnet Rock, Hinchinbrook, I Am Invincible (3), Lonhro, Lord Kanaloa, Pierro, Savabeel, Sebring, Snitzel, So You Think, Tivaci,
Vancouver and Written Tycoon. It’s a star-studded lineup and one that is sure to appeal to a wide range of buyers.
