Harry Angel (Dark Angel-Beatrix Potter, by Cadeaux Genereux)

Stood at Darley for A$22,000 (inc GST)-first season fee 2019

Ranked the World’s Best Sprinter and Europe’s Champion 3YO Sprinter in 2017, Harry Angel won both the July Cup-G1 and the Haydock Sprint-G1 (also won by Danehill). In the season prior, as a two year-old, Harry Angel won the Mill Reef Stakes-G2 and he raced on as a four year-old where he was a G2 winner and G1 placed. His sire Dark Angel (Acclamation) produces G1 sprinters such as Battaash, Harry Angel, Champion Older Male Sprinter Lethal Force, and Champion Older Sprinting Mare Mecca’s Angel all among his nine G1 winners. Lethal Force and Alhebayeb (five stakes winners) have provided Dark Angel with early opportunities as a sire of sires. Harry Angel is a half-brother to G2 two year-old winner Pierre Lapin, and is out of a half-sister to dual G1 winner in Hong Kong Xtension. This is the family
of G1 winner Supremacy, while Harry Angel’s dam is a three quarter sister to Listed winner and G1 placed Wathab. Harry Angel has one yearling at Easter, Lot 85, who is a half-brother to HK Sprint Cup-G2 winner Amazing Star.

Fine Needle (Admire Moon-Needlecraft, by Mark of Esteem)

Dual G1 winning sprinter Fine Needle is a typical tough Japanese horse, bred for soundness, and excelling with plenty of speed. He was a winner at two over 1400m, before winning twice at three. At four, he improved again to win three races including the Sankei Sho-G2  Centaur Stakes over 1200m, and it was at five that he really showed his best, winning four of his six starts that season including the Takamatsunomiya Kinen/Nakayama Sprinters Stakes-G1 double, just like top sire Lord Kanaloa (sire of Almond Eye and Tagaloa). Fine Needle was awarded the Champion Sprinter/Miler for Japan in 2018 and ended his career with ten wins. His sire, Admire Moon, won the Japan Cup-G1 and is a successful sire from the Mr. Prospector line, while Fine Needle is out of G3 winner Needlecraft, who is a daughter of Listed winner and G1 placed Sharp Point (Royal Academy). Australian buyers would recognise Tulloch Stakes-G2 winner Gallatin (Street Cry) who is the out of a half-sister to Needlecraft. Fine Needle has one yearling in the Inglis Easter catalogue, Lot 287, who is out of a full sister to dual G1 winner Tosen Stardom. 

Justify (Scat Daddy-Stage Music, by Ghostzapper)

There are plenty of chances to win a Ferrari with Justify’s first crop promotion with 96 first crop foals who are eligible for the competition. Unbeaten Justify was crowned USA Horse of the Year as a three year-old thanks to his impressive six wins from six starts including the USA Triple Crown. Of his six wins, four came at G1 level—the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes and Santa Anita Derby-and he earnt over $3.7million. By Florida Derby-G1 winner Scat Daddy, Justify is one of 31 G1 winners for Scat Daddy, whose sire sons include No Nay Never (36 stakes winners) and promising Caravaggio. Scat Daddy is best known locally for his dual G1 winner Con Te Partiro who won the Coolmore Classic and Queen of the Turf Stakes in Australia. Justify’s dam, stakes placed winner Stage Magic, has also left G2 winner The Lieutenant, and this is the family of group winners Voodoo Lily, Spellbound, Soothsay, and Kid Cruz. Justify has 25 yearlings at Easter, including Lot 62 out of champion mare Atlantic Jewel making this yearling a half-brother to G1 winner Russian Emperor; Lot 89, a half-sister to G1 winner Mighty Boss; Lot 249 out of dual G1 winner Kononkop; Lot 267, a half-brother to Champion 3YO Filly Loving Gaby; Lot 283, a half-sister to triple G1 winner Le Romain; Lot 443 out of G1 winner Srikandi.

The Autumn Sun (Redoute’s Choice-Azmiyna, by Galileo)

The Champion 3YO Colt in Australia in 2018/19, The Autumn Sun won five G1 races, and eight of his nine starts. He was an unbeaten two year-old, winning the JJ Atkins Stakes-G1 among his three victories at that age. At three, The Autumn Sun thrived, winning five of his six starts including the Golden Rose-G1, as well as the Randwick, Rosehill, and Caulfield Guineas. Superbly bred, The Autumn Sun is by Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice out of a Galileo half-sister to four-time G1 winner Azamour and G2 winner Arazan. Sons of Redoute’s Choice are hot property thanks to Snitzel (116 stakes winners) and Not a Single Doubt (79 stakes winners). This is a fantastic imported European family with the both The Autumn Sun’s second and third dam being stakes winners. Trapeze Artist was the Champion 3YO Colt in Australia in 2017/18. Winner of two starts at two including the Black Opal Stakes-G3 and placing in the Sires’ Produce Stakes-G1, Trapeze Artist was a superior sprinter at three winning the TJ Smith Stakes-G1, All Aged Stakes-G1, and Golden Rose Stakes-G1. He trained on at four to win the Canterbury Stakes-G1 over 1300m in track record time. By Snitzel, whose sire sons include Shamus Award (17 stakes winners), and many young sires retiring recently, Trapeze Artist rates as one of Snitzel’s very best racehorses; no mean feat. His dam is a half-sister to Stradbroke-G1 winner Crawl, and triple Listed winner Old Man, from the family of Coogee Walk and Boardwalk Angel. Trapeze Artist represents colonial speed and breeders loved his race record, physique, and pedigree combination, with the speedster having 129 live foals in his first crop. He is represented by 18 yearlings at Easter, including Lot 288, a half-brother to current group winning 2YO Sejardan.

U S Navy Flag (War Front-Misty For Me, by Galileo)

Champion 2YO in Europe and Champion 3YO Sprinter in Europe, U S Navy Flag won the two big juvenile races on the calendar; the Middle Park Stakes-G1 and the Dewhurst Stake-G1 then followed it up as a three year-old with a July Cup-G1 win. He also placed in the Irish classic, the Irish Two Thousand Guineas-G1 and was rated 125 by Timeform at the end of his three year-old season. His sire War Front has 100 stakes winners, with dual G1 winner Declaration of War having proved himself locally as the sire of 40 stakes winners including VRC Derby-G1 winner Warning, Queensland Oaks-G1 winner Winning Ways, and Melbourne Cup-G1 winner Vow and Declare. War Front’s other major sire son is The Factor with 31 stakes winners. U S Navy Flag is a full brother to triple G1 winner Roly Poly and a half-brother to G3 winner Cover Song. Their dam is Champion 2YO and Champion 3YO Filly Misty For Me (Galileo) who won four G1 races and is a full sister to Champion 2YO Filly Ballydoyle. This is the family of Fasliyev and Desert Wine. U S Navy Flag was well supported with 99 live foals, and is represented by one yearling at Easter, Lot 162, a colt who is the second foal of New Zealand Oaks-G1 winner Fanatic.

Stood at Widden Stud for A$24,750 (inc GST)-first season fee 2019

Champion 2YO Colt Written By collected his title in 2017/18 with a win in the Blue Diamond Stakes-G1. At two, he won his first four starts, then was fourth in the Golden Slipper-G1 (and the first colt to cross the finishing line). Back at three, he won twice more including the Blue Sapphire Stake-G3 and was fourth in the Coolmore Stud Stakes-G1. Described as ‘a weapon’ by his trainer, Written By is everything a breeder wants from a precocious type. By Champion Sire Written Tycoon, whose eleven G1 winners including fellow Champion 2YO Colt and promising young sire Capitalist. Written Tycoon now has 44 stakes winners and with horses such as Winning Rupert and Rich Enuff showing early promise as stallions, things should continue to improve as Written Tycoon’s better racing sons retire to stud. Written By is one of five winners for his winning dam, Yau Chin, who is from the family of New Zealand’s successful sire Pins. Written By has 106 live foals in his first crop and is represented by two yearlings at Easter including Lot 63, a filly out of Listed winner Atmospherical.
