I’ve witnessed first-hand the momentum Bowness has gained in more recent times and we all fully expect that the acquisition of D’Argento can keep us on that upward spiral.

Bowness Stud’s ability to produce competitive racehorses is astounding. Their recent graduates include Trapeze Artist, Youngstar, Funstar, Media Award, Chapada, and Listed winner Miss Charlie Brown. Bowness Stud sell a lot of winners at great value prices, such as Magic Millions graduate Birdies Galore who sold for $60,000, and has won two of her four starts and is Listed placed twice this season. Buyers and trainers would find it well worthwhile inspecting this draft.

D’Argento

Prance ‘n’ Dance sold at a Magic Millions sale for $15,000 and was a city winning two year-old last season with earnings over $95,000, while $20,000 graduate and three year-old Summer In Siam won on debut recently. Currently three year-old winner Shadow Vampire won recently at his fourth start, while Kayleen was a two year-old winner at her second start last season. Super Sting was a Magic Millions graduate for $15,000 and he won at his fourth start recently; while Anahita is one to watch.

The Magic Millions graduate won on debut this season at three, then ran third to Waltz on By at her second start.

The first yearlings by a stallion are always a big moment for a farm, and Bowness Stud’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft is dominated by progeny from the first crop of their Gr1 Rosehill Guineas winner D’Argento (So You Think-Fullazz, by Redoute’s Choice). The strapping grey stallion was unbeaten at two, a Classic winner at three, and multiple Gr1 placed at four behind Winx, and Hartnell. D’Argento has the physical type, the race record and the pedigree to make it as a stallion, and breeders certainly agreed as he covered a big book of 151 mares in his first season, resulting in 104 yearlings in his first crop. His first crop weanlings sold for $120,000, $90,000 and $80,000, and were bought for potential re-sale in New Zealand and Australia. D’Argento covered 140 mares in his second season, showing that breeders were happy with their first crop foals.

“I’ve witnessed first-hand the momentum Bowness has gained in more recent time and we all fully expect that the acquisition of D’Argento can keep us on that upward spiral. His purchase came at a very good time for the fresh plans we have now put into place and the early days of his stud career could not have gone much better,” said Bowness Stud’s James Daly.

Bowness Stud will bring seventeen yearlings to the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale with fifteen of them by D’Argento, with nine colts and six fillies.

Giga Kick has been the sprinting find of this season; unbeaten in five starts including The Everest, and Lot 250 is a colt out of his winning half-sister Popular Acclaim, whose first foal is a winner. Giga Kick, and this colt’s dam, are also half-siblings to two other stakes horses and to the dam of Gr1 winner Alabama Express.

Sharp ‘n’ Smart won this season’s Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes and Lot 1028 is a D’Argento colt from a close relative.

This yearling is the third foal of winning mare Bexstar, who is a half-sister to Listed winner Absalon, and to the dam of Sharp ‘n’ Smart.

Lot 322 is a colt out of Saggiatore, a winning Galileo half-sister to Follow Gold, the stakes winning dam of Gr1 winner Driefontein, and to Export Gold who is the stakes winning dam of stakes winners Dubawi Gold and Forest Gold. Saggiatore has left three winners to date.

The second foal of a sprint winning mare, Lot 473’s second dam is American Listed winner Moon De French (Malibu Moon) who placed in the Gr1 Lady’s Secret Stakes, and we all know how well those American families do here.

Of the D’Argento fillies, Lot 888 is the third foal of Full of Beans, a winning half-sister to dual Gr1 winner Kenedna and group winner Spill The Beans, and this is the family of Bounding Away, In a Bound, Yammer, Speak Fondly, and many others.

With fifteen of D’Argento’s 104 first crop yearlings in the Bowness Stud draft, buyers will get a good chance to see what the Gr1 winner’s stock look like. They will be pleased.

Also in the Bowness Stud draft are Lot 21, a filly by Pierata out of winning mare Kaitlin Cove (Snitzel), and Lot 898, a colt by Magna Grecia who is the first foal of an unraced full sister
to Listed winner Choice Words (Choisir).

Bowness Stud is a family owned and operated property, and they keep churning out the winners at incredible value prices.
