Easter has proven a happy hunting ground for Tyreel Stud and their customers, the best judges always keen to take a close look at their drafts. Their 2020 version is a strong as ever with five exciting prospects…
Lot 134 grey colt by So You Think from Pinocchio (by Encosta de Lago): bred on a 4mx4m cross of Northern Dancer and Fairy Bridge through Sadler’s Wells and Fairy King (who, within five generations combine in the pedigrees of 53 stakes winners including So You Think’s Group Three winner Higher Ground), he is out of a Wyong winner who is excelling at stud. A sister to Racing To Win, Pinocchio has had her first three foals reach the track, all being multiple winners including Hong Kong’s rising star Aethero (seven starts, five wins including the HKJC Sprint-Gr.2, 1200m… a $575,000 Easter graduate) and the local Group Two winner Classique Legend (a $400,000 yearling).
“He is a colt of great quality and substance,” said stud manager Robert Sims.
“He is a half brother to two sensational performers and is a colt with real presence.”
Lot 181 chestnut colt by Extreme Choice from Sambar (by More Than Ready): by an exciting first season sire, he is a 3/4 brother to Samizdat (a $325,000 yearling who has had nine starts, winning five races including the Asian Beau Stakes-Gr.3, 1400m) and half-brother to the Champion Fillies Stakes-Gr.3, 1600m winner Samovare. Also dam of the five times winner Monash, Sambar (a three length Randwick maiden winner) is out of a half-sister to the stakes winner Nevet and the dams of the Group winners Rio Carnival and Press The Button. Bred on the same Not A Single Doubt/More Than Ready cross as Miracles Of Life, he hails from an historically classy family, that of Taj Rossi, Denman, Preserve, Dark Eclipse, Stormy Passage and Storm Queen.
“A strong, powerfully built, masculine colt whose physical and genetic attributes combine to provide an exciting prospect for buyers.”
Lot 291 bay/brown colt by I Am Invincible from Written Dash (by Written Tycoon): half-brother to the promising Osamu who, having fetched $1.7 million, was the equal third highest priced yearling at Easter 2019. Just beaten having raced greenly at debut, the Chris Waller trained colt struck interference when finishing close up in the Inglis Millennium-RL, 1100m. The first foal for Written Dash (Typhoon Tracy Stakes-Gr.3, 1200m) sold for $480,000 and is a trial winner for the Hawkes stable. Boasting a cross of Canny Lad (as do his sire’s stakes winners Houtzen, Overshare and Supreme Idea), he hails from the family of Sizzling and D’Argento.
“A striking colt who oozes quality and power. Osamu is already delivering the sort of performances to suggest that he could develop into one of Australia’s most exciting colts.”
Lot 394 bay filly by Hinchinbrook from Couredge (by Show A Heart): hailing from the final crop of her much missed sire, she is the fifth foal of a city placed winner who is doing a great job at stud with her first four foals all showing talent; the Gimcrack Stakes-Gr.3, 1000m winner Every Rose (a $160,000 yearling), the four times metropolitan winner Smartedge ($120,000), the Warwick Farm winner Academy ($150,000) and the promising Hong Kong based Moon Peaks ($325,000). Couredge is one of ten winners produced by the dual city winner Alternative Edge (sister to the C.F Orr Stakes-Gr.1, 1400m winner Racer’s Edge), dam of stakes winners Vintedge and Youths Edge.
“This sensational filly is one of the finest tributes to the legacy Hinchinbrook has left and maybe one of his most exciting. She is a show-stopping filly!”
Lot 426 bay/brown filly by So You Think from Erika (by Blackfriars): first foal for a city winning half-sister to triple Group One winner Moment Of Change. Hailing from a strong WA family she can count amongst her relations the stakes winners Mr Diagnosis, Spirit Lady, Daring Smile and Run Swiftly. Three of the great So You Think’s five Group One winners (Nakeeta Jane, Inference, D’Argento) are out
of Danehill line mares.
“A lovely, quality, loose moving filly who possesses that unique action that propels her effortlessly. A must inspect filly for the sale.”

Where do you get your news?
Staff, my Mum, Facebook, rarely television and radio.
When did something start out badly for you but in the end, it was great?
We have two amazing children who are now adults but the first couple of years were very difficult with screaming babies, toddler tantrums, paying bills and juggling work commitments! I am proud to say we all made it through that time and cannot believe we are looking at our babies as grown men who have adopted our integrity and work ethic.
When we first came to Tyreel Stud it felt like having a newborn. Through determination, hard work and the desire to achieve we have come a long way. As with our children, we believe we are right where we had always intended to be… I think it is right to say that we now have three children Ben, Blake and Tyreel!
When was the last time you got to tell someone “I told you so.”?
Being the only female in a very male dominated environment (household and stud) there are always differences of opinions so I say this regularly (but mostly under my breath)!
