Supporting the career of a stallion like I Am Invincible takes an ever-improving broodmare band, lush pastures, and a team of experienced horse people. Yarraman Park’s results speak to the quality systems that support a culture of continual improvement. With a long heritage in the Australian racing industry, Yarraman Park doesn’t rest on its laurels, but works to bring the highest quality of horses to market. Arthur and Harry Mitchell are proud of the farm’s record of producing 29 black type winners since 2020 alone.
Drilling down to their Inglis Easter graduates, Yarraman Park’s last draft got off to a great start when Zambezi River ran second on debut in the G3 ATC Breeders’ Plate, behind Sejardan, earlier this season. Yarraman Park’s other recent Easter graduates include G2 winner Strasbourg, G3 winners I Am Immortal, California Zimbol, Buddies, Debellatio, Listed winner Quantico, G2 placed Vincere Volare, and multitudes of city winners.
“As always, we are looking forward to the Easter sale as the showcase of the industry. We have a lovely draft packed with I Am Invincible’s stock from some quality racemares, and hopefully we can see plenty of international buyers here now the borders are open. Everything looks in place for this year to be a successful strong sale,” said Director Arthur Mitchell.
It’s not all about Yarraman Park’s brilliant G1 sire I Am Invincible, although the eight yearlings by him in this draft are an embarrassment of riches. As well as the eight I Am Invincible yearlings, this draft includes a further ten yearlings by a range of other sires such as Lope De Vega, Pierro, The Autumn Sun, and Written Tycoon.
Two yearlings by Yarraman Park sire Hellbent who has had an excellent start to his stud career with his first crop of two year-olds including stakes placed Miss Hellfire and Bohemian Daisy. Lot 440 is the very exciting half-brother to G1 winner Captivant (Capitalist), winner of the Champagne Stakes-G1 at two last season and second in the Caulfield Guineas-G1 this season at three. This colt is the fifth foal of Speedboat (Commands), who has also left two year-old winner Anne Cecelia, and this is the family of G1 winner River Dove, dam of sire Headwater. The other Hellbent yearling is Lot 207, a half-sister to Listed winning two year-old Harlem River, out of city winner Harlem Heat (Xaar) who is a half-sister to Hot As Hell, Flaming Hot, Craig’s Dragon, and to the dams of Yes Yes Yes, and In Her Time.
Triple G1 winner Lucia Valentina (Savabeel’s) third foal, a filly by I Am Invincible, is Lot 265, and this filly has plenty of depth to her pedigree beyond her dam. Lucia Valentina won seven races, including three Group Ones, the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Turnbull Stakes, and Vinery Stud Stakes, as well as placing at G1 level on four occasions. Her first two foals are by Snitzel, so this filly represents a change in direction. Lucia Valentina is a half-sister to G3 winner Best Show, and this is the family of dual G1 winner Danzdanzdance.
Sires’ Produce Stakes-G3 winner Flying Jess’s I Am Invincible colt, Lot 176, is the second foal of this young speedy Hinchinbrook mare. This is a family on the move with plenty of young horses on the page who are currently racing, such as stakes placed Beldarra (Hinchinbrook).
Young stakes winning mare Sassy ‘n’ Smart (Smart Missile)’s second foal, Lot 402, is an I Am Invincible filly. Sassy ‘n’ Smart was an early maturing type who won a Listed race as a two year-old and was placed in the Matamata Breeders Stakes-G2 at that age. She’s a half-sister to Widden Stakes-G3 winner Mallory, and this yearling’s third dam is dual G1 winner Nebraska Tornado (Storm Cat).
A colt with plenty of upside is Lot 357, by I Am Invincible, he is the second foal of Listed winner Precious Memories, whose first foal ran second on debut as a two year-old recently. Precious Memories is out of a half-sister to G1 winners Castelvecchio and Maid of Heaven, as well to G3 winner Mirrasalo (dam of G3 winner Mirra Vision).
Group two winner Ektifaa (More Than Ready) won four races in succession, and her second foal, Lot 145, is an I Am Invincible filly. Ektifaa’s dam is a winning half-sister to G1 winner Calveen, from the English Wonder, Dr Grace family who has recently added G2 winner Pareanui Bay, and impressive stakes winner on debut Millane, out of group winner Fireworks.
A full brother, Lot 129, to BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes-G2 winner Strasbourg (I Am Invincible) is the fourth foal of G2 placed city winner Danish Spy, whose other I Am Invincible foal is, to date, placed this season at two. This colt’s second dam is Listed winner Super Snooper (Zeditave), dam of eight race winner and stakes winner Forest Spy. The third dam of this colt is early maturing Maribyrnong Plate winner Peeping (Todman), dam of three stakes winners.
Outside the key yearlings by I Am Invincible, several others caught the eye on paper including a full sister to up and coming sprinter Lost and Running (Per Incanto), Lot 141, is a Per Incanto filly from Dreamlife, a half-sister to three stakes winners; Kiss Me Ketut, A Chance to Dream, and Fast Love (also the dam of Kaonic). Listed winner Lost and Running has earnings over $2.2million from his seven wins.
The second foal of G1 winning two year-old La Luna Rossa (Written Tycoon), Lot 250, is a colt by Deep Field, making him linebred back to his own family. La Luna Rossa was crowned the Top Filly on the NZ 2YO Free Handicap thanks to her two wins at that age. This colt’s third dam is a winning Redoute’s Choice half-sister to Listen Here, the dam of Deep Field, Shooting To Win, and Zaniah.
Expectations around the quality of an Easter draft are always high, and this year’s draft from Yarraman Park more than measures up with multiple yearlings out of stakes winning mares or being half or full siblings to stakes winners by some of the best sires in the country.
