First Season Sires set to shine at Inglis Easter

With successful stallions like Deep Field, Shamus Award, All Too Hard and Champion Sire in South Africa Gimmethegreenlight all Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduates, this year’s first season sires are headlined by Gr1 winner Exceedance who was sold at the 2018 Easter sale for $180,000. The Gr1 winner promises to become another in the long list of Inglis graduates who’ve completed the pathway from yearling to star racehorse to successful stallion.

Too Darn Hot
(Dubawi-Dar Re Mi, by Singspiel)
Stood in 2020 at Darley for $44,000

A champion with a champion’s pedigree, Too Darn Hot lived up to the expectations of his breeding. Crowned both Champion 2YO and 3YO in Europe, Too Darn Hot was an unbeaten two year-old, winning all his four starts including the Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes a race won by the likes of Frankel, Teofilo, Shamardal, New Approach, Grand Lodge, and Rock of Gibraltar. At three, he won twice, both at Gr1 level in the Gr1 Prix Jean Prat and Gr1 Sussex Stakes. He also placed in the Gr1 Irish Two Thousand Guineas and Gr1 Royal Ascot St James’s Palace Stakes.

By Champion sire Dubawi who has over 50 Gr1 winners among his 249 stakes winners and sire sons like Makfi, Night of Thunder, Poet’s Voice and many young emerging sires.

Too Darn Hot is out of triple Gr1 winner and Champion Older Mare in England Dar Re Mi, who is the dam of seven winners, three at stakes level including full siblings Gr2 winner and Gr1 placed Lah Ti Dar and Gr3 winner So Mi Dar. Too Darn Hot’s second dam is Gr1 winner Darara, dam of four Gr1 winners, the others being Rewilding, River Dancer, and Darazari.

Too Darn Hot has sixteen yearlings in the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale catalogue, a reflection of the excellent quality book of mares he attracted in his first season at stud. Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Catchy’s third foal, a filly, is Lot 61, while Champion 2YO Filly Entisaar’s filly is Lot 119. A half-sister to Gr3 placed two year-old Ticket To Ride from a winning daughter of triple Gr1 winner Private Steer is Lot 7, and Lot 29 is a colt out of Listed winner Aquila Solitaria from a strong European family. Gr3 Breeders’ Stakes winner Broadband has already left Gr3 placed Drisana, and her third foal is Lot 51; while Lot 91 is a colt out of Listed winner Curtana, making him a half-brother to group placed winner Sword of Mercy. Lot 212 is a half-brother to group winners Charmed Harmony and Suyoof and to the dam of Gr3 winner Minhaaj. A half-brother to recent Listed winner Lady of Honour is Lot 216, while Lot 302 is a half-sister to Listed placed winner So Serene out of dual Gr3 winner Radharcnafarraige. Recent group placed winner Tajneed’s half-sister, Lot 322, is out of a daughter of dual Gr1 winner Melito.

Castelvecchio
(Dundeel-St. Therese, by Dehere)
Stood in 2020 at Arrowfield Stud for $33,000

An Inglis yearling, Castelvecchio won his first two starts at two including the Listed Inglis 2YO Millennium before going on to place in the Gr1 Sires’ Produce Stakes and win the Gr1 Champagne Stakes, beating Loving Gaby. Back at three, Castelvecchio placed in the Gr1 WS Cox Plate in the spring before coming back to win the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas. All up, Castelvecchio won four of his thirteen starts and earnings over $2.9million.
One of five Gr1 winners for young sire Dundeel, Castelvecchio is out of Listed winner St. Therese, making him a half-brother to Gr1 winner Maid of Heaven, group winner Mirrasalo (dam of group winner Mirra Vision) and also to the dams of Listed winner Precious Memories and Hussy by Choice.

Castelvecchio has nine yearlings are catalogued at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, led by Lot 239, a stunningly well bred colt out of Champion 2YO and 3YO Filly Miss Finland, making this colt a half-brother to Gr1 winner Stay With Me, dam of Listed winner Waltz on By. Lot 182 is a half-sister to two stakes placed winners and to the winning dam of brilliant two year-old Sejardan. A half-sister to triple Gr1 winner Hitotsu is Lot 204, while Lot 450 is a half-brother to Gr3 winner Missile Mantra.

Pierata
(Pierro-November Flight, by Flying Spur)
Stood in 2020 at Aquis Farm for $44,000

A tough brilliant racehorse, Gr1 All Aged Stakes winner Pierata raced from two till five in the best company. A winner at two and placed in the Gr2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes behind Melody Belle who went on to win
14 Gr1 races, Pierata won three of his first four starts at three including the Gr3 Vo Rogue Plate and Listed Magic Milions Guineas. In the autumn he placed in the Gr1 Randwick Guineas behind Kementari.

At four, Pierata won three races highlighted by a classy win in the Gr1 All Aged Stakes, a race he almost won again at five, missing out by a nose to Tofane.

One of the first crop of Triple Crown hero Pierro, he is one of 31 stakes winner for his sire and joins Arcadia Queen, Regal Power, Shadow Hero, Levendi, and Pinot as Gr1 winners by Pierro. Pierata is out of Gr3 winner November Flight and is a half-brother to group winner Ashokan, group placed winner Jet Propulsion and to the dam of Gr3 winner Our Playboy.

Pierata has seven yearlings catalogued at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, including Lot 57, a three-quarter sister to Listed winner of seven races Holbein (Pierro) out of Irish group winner and Gr1 placed Carribean Sunset. Lot 147 is out of Listed winner Galizani, a close relative to Champion 2YO Fireburn, while Lot 415 is a half-sister to Gr2 winner Daises, Gr1 placed winner Zou Town, and stakes placed winner Motown Lil.

Yes Yes Yes
(Rubick-Sin Sin Sin, by Fantastic Light)
Stood in 2020 at Coolmore Stud for $38,500

Winner of three races at two including the Gr2 Todman Stakes, Yes Yes Yes took on the older sprinters in The Everest and won, beating Santa Ana Lane and Trekking with future Champion Sprinter Nature Strip
in fourth. Two other winners of The Everest, Redzel and Classique Legend, were also in the field, as was Champion 3YO Sunlight. Yes Yes Yes also placed in the Gr1 Golden Rose and Gr2 Run to the Roses on his way
to The Everest glory.

By young sire Rubick who has sired seven stakes winners including this season’s Gr1 Golden Rose winner Jacquinot. Yes Yes Yes is a half-brother to stakes placed winner Dee Nine Elle, and his winning dam is a half-sister to group winning sprinters Hot as Hell, Flaming Hot, and Craig’s Dragon, as well to the winning dam of dual Gr1 winner In Her Time.

Yes Yes Yes will be represented by five yearlings catalogued at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, including Lot 295, a half-brother to five stakes winners; Gr2 winner Sertorius, Gr2 winner Pretty Brazen, Gr3 winner Dollar for Dollar, Gr3 winner Pretty Amazing and Gr3 winner Clifton Red, as well as three other stakes horses. Lot 426 is the second foal of winning Shamardal mare Typhoon Jolie who won five races and is a half-sister to Gr2 winner Formality, out of Singapore Horse of the Year Jolie’s Shinju. Lot 455 is a colt out of stakes placed winner Workdrinks whose first foal is a winner this season from the family of Gr1 winner Virage de Fortune.

Blue Point
(Shamardal-Scarlett Rose, by Royal Applause)
Stood in 2020 at Darley for $44,000

The only horse to win three Gr1 sprints at Royal Ascot, Blue Point was a Champion Sprinter who emulated Choisir by winning the Royal Ascot Gr1 King’s Stand Stakes and Gr1 Diamond Jubilee in the same year.
Blue Point showed his class early, winning three of his six starts at two including the Gr2 York Gimcrack Stakes, then at three, he was a dual Gr3 winner and placed in the Gr1 Royal Ascot Commonwealth Cup. At four, Blue Point won his first Gr1 King’s Stand Stakes, following it up at five with a win in the Gr1 Meydan Al Quoz Sprint before winning the King’s Stand again and adding the Diamond Jubilee.

By Champion racehorse and sire Shamardal, whose sire sons include Lope de Vega (sire of 104 stakes winners) and several young up and coming sires, Blue Point is a half-brother to group winning two year-old Formosina. His dam is a half-sister to tough group winner Tumbleweed Ridge.

Blue Point has four yearlings catalogued at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, including Lot 89, a stunningly well-bred filly who is a half-sister to Gr3 winner and Gr1 placed Crystal Dreamer, and to the stakes placed winning dam of Gr1 winner Zougotcha, Listed winner Persuader, and Listed winner The Actuary. This filly is out of Listed winner Crystal Wit, a half-sister to Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily. Lot 185 is a half-sister to Gr2 winner Sword of Light and Listed winner Sword of Justice, out of a stakes placed winner of five who
is a half-sister to Gr1 winner Flamberge.

Lot 200 is a half-brother to Gr2 Sandown Guineas winner Helene Allibor, out of stakes winner of nine races Libor Lady, while Lot 247 is a half-brother to Listed winner Beethoven.

Zousain
(Zoustar-Pasar Silbano, by Elnadim)
Stood in 2020 at Widden Stud for $19,800

ZOUSAIN (Zoustar x Pasar Silbano).

Zousain showed his speed early winning on debut in Sydney in February, before running fourth in the Gr2 Skyline Stakes at only his second start. Back for the Brisbane carnival, Zousain won the Gr2 Champagne Classic before running second in the Gr2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and the Gr1 JJ Atkins Stakes (to future Champion 3YO The Autumn Sun). As a three year-old, Zousain showed he was up to the class of the best three year-olds in the country when he ran second in the Gr1 Golden Rose to The Autumn Sun and second in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes to Sunlight (a race trifecta by Zousain’s sire Zoustar).

Zoustar (Northern Meteor) has quickly proven to be a very good stallion, leaving Champion 3YO Filly Sunlight in his first crop, and already has 33 stakes winners on the board. Zousain is one of three winners for his Gr3 winning dam, Pasar Silbano, who was a quality two year-old, winning four races at that age (five in total) in Ireland and America. She won two stakes races and was four time stakes placed and this is the European family of good sire and Gr1 winner Indian Lodge.

Zousain will be represented by three yearlings catalogued at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, including Lot 39 a three-quarter brother to Gr2 winner Glistening (Zoustar) out of Gr3 Gold Coast Guineas winner Beethog; and Lot 413, a filly out of Gr3 winner Thurlow.

Exceedance
(Exceed and Excel-Bonnie Mac, by Thorn Park)
Stood in 2020 at Vinery for $38,500

Winner of the stallion making Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, Exceedance won on debut as a two year-old. First up at three, Exceedance won the early spring Gr3 San Domenico Stakes, defeating Bivouac, then he ran third twice to Bivouac and Yes Yes Yes in both the Gr2 Run to the Rose and Gr1 Golden Rose.

Exceedance gained his revenge in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, defeating Bivouac, to finish his spring three year-old campaign with two wins and two placings. Back in the autumn, he was asked to sprint against the older horses and had three solid runs prior to retirement.

Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate Exceedance is by Champion Sire and Champion 2YO Sire Exceed and Excel from Listed winner Bonnie Mac, making him a full brother to group winner Oxley Road and a half-brother to Listed winner Mac ‘n’ Cheese. The stakes winners continue under his second dam with Bonnie Mac having three stakes winning siblings.

Exceedance has two yearlings catalogued at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, including a filly, Lot 240 who is the second foal of Gr2 winner of eight races Miss Gunpowder, from the family of Gr1 winner Absolut Glam. Lot 327 is a colt out of Gr3 winner Runway Star from the family of Gr1 winners Wrap Around, Fashions Afield, and NZ Bloodstock Filly of the Year Imelda Mary.

Brutal
(O’Reilly-Alberton Princess, Golan)
Stood in 2020 at Newgate Farm for $27,500

Brutal won the Gr1 Doncaster Mile as a three year-old in a career that spanned three seasons. He epitomises the toughness threaded through his pedigree. A winner of his only start at two by five lengths with future Gr1 winner Mystic Journey back in fourth, Brutal won his first two starts as a spring three year-old, both in Listed company to take his record to three from three. In the autumn, he was asked much harder questions, finishing third first up in Gr3 company, then two starts later, Brutal ran second in the Gr1 George Ryder behind champion mare Winx before heading to the Gr1 Doncaster Handicap at his next start. He won, beating Dreamforce and Hartnell. Back at four, Brutal won first up in the Gr2 Premiere Stakes, then was third in the Gr3 Sydney Stakes before retirement.

By New Zealand Champion Sire O’Reilly, Brutal is a half-brother to Listed winner Talaria, from the family of Cavalry Rose, Testarhythm, and Te Akau Rose.

Brutal has one yearling catalogued at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Lot 264, who is a half-brother to Listed winner Lady War Machine (Street Boss), and this colt is out of Gr3 winner Native Bombshell from the family of Champion 2YO in NZ Warhorse, and Rebel Dane’s sire California Dane.

Magna Grecia
(Invincible Spirit-Cabaret, by Galileo)
Stood in 2020 at Coolmore Stud for $22,000

The perfect Classic horse, Magna Grecia won twice at two including the Gr1 Futurity Stakes. Back at three, he won the time-honoured Gr1 The Two Thousand Guineas and retired with three wins from six starts. Awarded the Champion 3YO Miler in Ireland, Magna Grecia has a superb pedigree to back up his Classic winning miler race record.

By Champion Sire of 2YOs and sire of sires Invincible Spirit who left 145 stakes winners with 21 of those at Gr1 level and whose son I Am Invincible is a Champion Sire in Australia, while Kingman is one of the emerging top class sires in Europe.

Magna Grecia is a half-brother to Europe’s Horse of the Year and five-time Gr1 winner St Mark’s Basilica, with both being out of group winning juvenile Cabaret. Not many mares leave one Gr1 winner, let alone two.

Magna Grecia’s one yearling in the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Lot 211. A half-brother to brilliant sprinter Chain of Lightning, winner of six of her eight starts, this colt is out of a winning daughter of Gr2 winner Mardi’s Magic from the family of The Everest winner Classique Legend, Hong Kong star sprinter Aethero, and Gr1 winner Racing To Win.

Omaha Beach
(War Front-Charming, by Seeking the Gold)
Stood in 2020 at Spendthrift for $22,000

Triple Gr1 winner Omaha Beach comes from one of the best families in the USA Stud book and he lived up to expectations with a stellar race record. Placed at two, Omaha Beach came into his own at three, winning the Gr1 Arkansas Derby, Gr1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship and the Gr1 Malibu Stakes, and was placed second in the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. Omaha Beach retired with five wins and five placings from ten starts and was the only horse in the USA in the last 32 years to win Gr1 races at 1200m and 2000m in the same season.
By quality sire War Front who has over 100 stakes winners, Omaha Beach is a half-brother to Champion 2YO Filly Take Charge Brandi (dam of recent Listed winner Courvoisier). His second dam is triple Gr1 winner Take Charge Lady, dam of three Gr1 winners.

Omaha Beach has one yearling catalogued at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Lot 379. A filly with huge residual value, she is a half-sister to Gr2 Tampa Bay Derby winner Prospective, and Listed winner Josie, as well as to the dam of Gr1 winner Kalypso. Out of Listed winner Spirited Away, this filly has an American pedigree that is free of Danehill.

Vino Rosso

Stood in 2020 at Spendthrift for $13,750

Spendthrift Vino Rosso

Dual Gr1 winner Vino Rosso began his career as an unbeaten two year-old and improved every year. A Gr2 winner at three, Vino Rosso showed his class when he won the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Classic and Gr1 Santa Anita Gold Cup, both at 2000m, as a four year-old. He was also first past the post in the Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup but was relegated to second on protest. All up, Vino Rosso won six races and over US$4.8million from his 15 starts and was crowned Champion Older Dirt Male in the USA. In winning the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, Vino Rosso defeated a field that included nine other Gr1 winners.

By dual USA Horse of the Year Curlin, who is now a hugely successful stallion with 83 stakes winners, Vino Rosso is out of a winning Street Cry mare. His dam is a half-sister to Gr2 winner Commissioner and Gr3 winner (and Gr1 placed) Laugh Track.

Vino Rosso will be represented by one yearling catalogued at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Lot 314, a half-sister to Gr1 New Zealand Derby winner Crown Prosecutor, and Gr1 Australasian Oaks placed Ripper Rita (both by American stallions). This filly is out of a two year-old winner who is closely related to Gr1 winners Captivant and River Dove (dam of Headwater).
