With successful stallions like Deep Field, Shamus Award, All Too Hard and Champion Sire in South Africa Gimmethegreenlight all Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduates, this year’s first season sires are headlined by Gr1 winner Exceedance who was sold at the 2018 Easter sale for $180,000. The Gr1 winner promises to become another in the long list of Inglis graduates who’ve completed the pathway from yearling to star racehorse to successful stallion.

A champion with a champion’s pedigree, Too Darn Hot lived up to the expectations of his breeding. Crowned both Champion 2YO and 3YO in Europe, Too Darn Hot was an unbeaten two year-old, winning all his four starts including the Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes a race won by the likes of Frankel, Teofilo, Shamardal, New Approach, Grand Lodge, and Rock of Gibraltar. At three, he won twice, both at Gr1 level in the Gr1 Prix Jean Prat and Gr1 Sussex Stakes. He also placed in the Gr1 Irish Two Thousand Guineas and Gr1 Royal Ascot St James’s Palace Stakes.
By Champion sire Dubawi who has over 50 Gr1 winners among his 249 stakes winners and sire sons like Makfi, Night of Thunder, Poet’s Voice and many young emerging sires.
Too Darn Hot is out of triple Gr1 winner and Champion Older Mare in England Dar Re Mi, who is the dam of seven winners, three at stakes level including full siblings Gr2 winner and Gr1 placed Lah Ti Dar and Gr3 winner So Mi Dar. Too Darn Hot’s second dam is Gr1 winner Darara, dam of four Gr1 winners, the others being Rewilding, River Dancer, and Darazari.

An Inglis yearling, Castelvecchio won his first two starts at two including the Listed Inglis 2YO Millennium before going on to place in the Gr1 Sires’ Produce Stakes and win the Gr1 Champagne Stakes, beating Loving Gaby. Back at three, Castelvecchio placed in the Gr1 WS Cox Plate in the spring before coming back to win the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas. All up, Castelvecchio won four of his thirteen starts and earnings over $2.9million.
One of five Gr1 winners for young sire Dundeel, Castelvecchio is out of Listed winner St. Therese, making him a half-brother to Gr1 winner Maid of Heaven, group winner Mirrasalo (dam of group winner Mirra Vision) and also to the dams of Listed winner Precious Memories and Hussy by Choice.

A tough brilliant racehorse, Gr1 All Aged Stakes winner Pierata raced from two till five in the best company. A winner at two and placed in the Gr2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes behind Melody Belle who went on to win
14 Gr1 races, Pierata won three of his first four starts at three including the Gr3 Vo Rogue Plate and Listed Magic Milions Guineas. In the autumn he placed in the Gr1 Randwick Guineas behind Kementari.
At four, Pierata won three races highlighted by a classy win in the Gr1 All Aged Stakes, a race he almost won again at five, missing out by a nose to Tofane.

Winner of three races at two including the Gr2 Todman Stakes, Yes Yes Yes took on the older sprinters in The Everest and won, beating Santa Ana Lane and Trekking with future Champion Sprinter Nature Strip
in fourth. Two other winners of The Everest, Redzel and Classique Legend, were also in the field, as was Champion 3YO Sunlight. Yes Yes Yes also placed in the Gr1 Golden Rose and Gr2 Run to the Roses on his way
to The Everest glory.

The only horse to win three Gr1 sprints at Royal Ascot, Blue Point was a Champion Sprinter who emulated Choisir by winning the Royal Ascot Gr1 King’s Stand Stakes and Gr1 Diamond Jubilee in the same year.
Blue Point showed his class early, winning three of his six starts at two including the Gr2 York Gimcrack Stakes, then at three, he was a dual Gr3 winner and placed in the Gr1 Royal Ascot Commonwealth Cup. At four, Blue Point won his first Gr1 King’s Stand Stakes, following it up at five with a win in the Gr1 Meydan Al Quoz Sprint before winning the King’s Stand again and adding the Diamond Jubilee.

Zousain showed his speed early winning on debut in Sydney in February, before running fourth in the Gr2 Skyline Stakes at only his second start. Back for the Brisbane carnival, Zousain won the Gr2 Champagne Classic before running second in the Gr2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and the Gr1 JJ Atkins Stakes (to future Champion 3YO The Autumn Sun). As a three year-old, Zousain showed he was up to the class of the best three year-olds in the country when he ran second in the Gr1 Golden Rose to The Autumn Sun and second in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes to Sunlight (a race trifecta by Zousain’s sire Zoustar).
Zoustar (Northern Meteor) has quickly proven to be a very good stallion, leaving Champion 3YO Filly Sunlight in his first crop, and already has 33 stakes winners on the board. Zousain is one of three winners for his Gr3 winning dam, Pasar Silbano, who was a quality two year-old, winning four races at that age (five in total) in Ireland and America. She won two stakes races and was four time stakes placed and this is the European family of good sire and Gr1 winner Indian Lodge.

Winner of the stallion making Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, Exceedance won on debut as a two year-old. First up at three, Exceedance won the early spring Gr3 San Domenico Stakes, defeating Bivouac, then he ran third twice to Bivouac and Yes Yes Yes in both the Gr2 Run to the Rose and Gr1 Golden Rose.
Exceedance gained his revenge in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, defeating Bivouac, to finish his spring three year-old campaign with two wins and two placings. Back in the autumn, he was asked to sprint against the older horses and had three solid runs prior to retirement.
Inglis Easter Yearling Sale graduate Exceedance is by Champion Sire and Champion 2YO Sire Exceed and Excel from Listed winner Bonnie Mac, making him a full brother to group winner Oxley Road and a half-brother to Listed winner Mac ‘n’ Cheese. The stakes winners continue under his second dam with Bonnie Mac having three stakes winning siblings.

Brutal

Stood in 2020 at Newgate Farm for $27,500
Brutal won the Gr1 Doncaster Mile as a three year-old in a career that spanned three seasons. He epitomises the toughness threaded through his pedigree. A winner of his only start at two by five lengths with future Gr1 winner Mystic Journey back in fourth, Brutal won his first two starts as a spring three year-old, both in Listed company to take his record to three from three. In the autumn, he was asked much harder questions, finishing third first up in Gr3 company, then two starts later, Brutal ran second in the Gr1 George Ryder behind champion mare Winx before heading to the Gr1 Doncaster Handicap at his next start. He won, beating Dreamforce and Hartnell. Back at four, Brutal won first up in the Gr2 Premiere Stakes, then was third in the Gr3 Sydney Stakes before retirement.

The perfect Classic horse, Magna Grecia won twice at two including the Gr1 Futurity Stakes. Back at three, he won the time-honoured Gr1 The Two Thousand Guineas and retired with three wins from six starts. Awarded the Champion 3YO Miler in Ireland, Magna Grecia has a superb pedigree to back up his Classic winning miler race record.

Triple Gr1 winner Omaha Beach comes from one of the best families in the USA Stud book and he lived up to expectations with a stellar race record. Placed at two, Omaha Beach came into his own at three, winning the Gr1 Arkansas Derby, Gr1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship and the Gr1 Malibu Stakes, and was placed second in the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. Omaha Beach retired with five wins and five placings from ten starts and was the only horse in the USA in the last 32 years to win Gr1 races at 1200m and 2000m in the same season.

Dual Gr1 winner Vino Rosso began his career as an unbeaten two year-old and improved every year. A Gr2 winner at three, Vino Rosso showed his class when he won the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Classic and Gr1 Santa Anita Gold Cup, both at 2000m, as a four year-old. He was also first past the post in the Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup but was relegated to second on protest. All up, Vino Rosso won six races and over US$4.8million from his 15 starts and was crowned Champion Older Dirt Male in the USA. In winning the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, Vino Rosso defeated a field that included nine other Gr1 winners.
By dual USA Horse of the Year Curlin, who is now a hugely successful stallion with 83 stakes winners, Vino Rosso is out of a winning Street Cry mare. His dam is a half-sister to Gr2 winner Commissioner and Gr3 winner (and Gr1 placed) Laugh Track.
