With the recent announcement that Nick and Jas Hodges of Riversdale Farm have purchased Ashleigh from Senga Bissett and Ivan Woodford-Smith to expand their operations, the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft from Riversdale Farm forms part of this exciting new development for the farm. Riversdale Farm have previously sold Gr1 winners Nettoyer, Samadoubt and Behemoth among many other top class graduates.
“We are really excited for the future and we see the purchase of Ashleigh Farm as the beginning of a new chapter for Riversdale,” said Nick Hodges. “I worked up there for Senga when she first developed the property, and to be in a position where we were able to purchase the property from Senga and Ivan is great. Being able to continue the outstanding work they’ve done is a big thrill and a big challenge.”
With thirteen yearlings by thirteen different stallions, this is a draft with something for everyone. One of the best looking stallions at stud, and a proven sire of Gr1 winners, So You Think has a filly, Lot 534, who is a full sister to recent winner Street Gossip, and this yearling filly is the fourth foal of five-race city winner Wahng Wah, who is a three-quarter sister to stakes placed winner Warranty, as well as being out of a half-sister to Gr1 winner Gathering, group winner Florentina (dam of dual Gr1 winner In Italian), and Listed winner California Turbo. This is the Redoute’s Choice family.
Anamoe’s sire Street Boss has a colt, Lot 787, who is the third foal of a winning half-sister to Listed winners Golden Pistols and Keep the Faith who won twelve races between them, including four at Listed level. Recent two year-old stakes winner Lord Cosmos is also from this strong American family.
Among the young, exciting sires is a Spieth colt, Lot 1230, who is out of a half-sister to triple Gr1 winner Sea Siren (dam of stakes placed winner Celestial Object), Lady Dehere, Oratorio, and Discorsi. Winning mare We Can Dance has an Impending colt, Lot 997, and his dam is a half-sister to the dam of four-time Gr1 winner Appearance and Listed winner Mascareri. Invader’s filly, Lot 1185, is out of four race winning mare from the family of Silent Surround, dam of Silent Sovereign and Silent Command.
Those looking for Magic Millions speed and precocity should inspect Lot 982, a Zousain colt out of a half-sister to Listed winner Instalment, from the family of Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Mirror Mirror, dam of Listed winner and Gr1 placed No Looking Back. Another sprint pedigree is the Showtime colt, Lot 1017, whose dam, Aunt Liberty was a winner at two and is out of Gr1 winner Macedon Lady, making her a half-sister to the dam of Japanese group winner Shonan Bardi.
A Gr1 winner at two and three Magna Grecia is represented in the Riversdale draft by a colt, Lot 396, who is the second live foal for Slippers (Zabeel) who is a three-quarter sister to Listed winner Enzed Beer (Zed) from the family of Gr1 winner Agent Double and Gr1 winner Air De Cour. Australia speedster Microphone has a colt, Lot 1155, who is out of a half-sister to triple Gr1 winning sprinter Bentley Biscuit and the dam of group winner San Fermin, and the winning dam of dual Listed winner Usmanov.
From the family of sires Duramente and Rulership comes a Pariah filly, Lot 1059, is out of Japanese mare Classic Curl, whose first foal won eleven races in Japan, and who is a half-sister to the dam of group winner and Gr1 placed I’m Yours.
A Pride of Dubai colt, Lot 1237, is out of Savabella Rose (Savabeel), a winning three-quarter sister to Gr1 Queensland Derby winner Brambles (Savabeel), group winner Lincoln Blue (Savabeel) and Listed winner Lopov (Savabeel), as well as being a half-sister to Listed winner Legsman. Savabella Rose’s first live foal has won three races, while her next two have been placed this season.
Emancipationist, a winning full sister to group placed winner Emotional Circus has a Shalaa colt, Lot 1085. His dam is also a half-sister Gr3 Widden Stakes placed Twirl, and to the dams of Gr2 VRC Sires’ Produce winner Lightsaber, and Listed Singapore Derby winner Sun Marshal. Emancipationist has left three winners to date.
Super One colt, Lot 1037, is out of Bonjour (Exceed and Excel) who is a full sister to group placed two year-old winner Sampeah, and is a half-sister to two other stakes horses, while being out of Listed winner Greeting. Bonjour has left two winners at stud including a full brother to this yearling, Hello Jack, who won at Canberra recently and has a win and four placings from seven starts.
