“We’ve had our biggest season to date at Seaton Park,” said Scott Eagleton. “We foaled down 215 mares and had another 80 dry mares to walk out to stallions as well. I’m really proud of our yearling draft this season. The horses are representing clients who’ve been with us since we started in 2003, as well as some of our own. New Zealand bred horses have had a great season in Australia, and I’m looking forward to having the Australian buyers back at Karaka. With the quality of our draft and the international buyers back in town, it should make for a great sale.”
Seaton Park will offer five lots in book one and another fifteen in book two at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.
The first foal of Gr2 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes winner Sensible Princess is an American Pharoah colt, Lot 501, and Sensible Princess is a half-sister to Listed winner and Gr1 placed Darscape Princess. “He’s a beauty who we will sell for a long term client of ours, Mr Bromley. The colt is an outstanding maiden foal, who stands over a lot of ground. He represents the type of horse that people come to New Zealand to buy.”
From the same family is Lot 82, a Dundeel half-sister to both Sensible Princess and Darscape Princess, out of group placed winner Cape Princess. “A short coupled strong filly, who looks like she will go earlier than the rest of the family, and with plenty of residual value.”
Ace High filly, Lot 127, is the second foal of winning mare Dancilla (Iffraaj), who is a half-sister to group winner Decorah, whose first foal is an Extreme Choice filly who has won two of her four starts in Australia. “Her sister sold well last year, and she is a real staying type full of quality. I’m very proud of her as we bred her and own her.”
Tivaci hit the ground running with first crop Gr1 winner Never Been Kissed, and his colt, Lot 192, is the second foal of winning mare Foiling (Showcasing), who is a half-sister to group winner Gypsy Fair, and his third dam is Gr1 Queensland Oaks winner Round the World. “He is possibly the pick on type for this draft. Black, stunning, and a staying type colt, he catches the eye every time. A lovely colt.”
A Merchant Navy filly, Lot 235, is out of winning High Chaparral mare High Harmony, whose three year-old Impending Harmony ran fourth on debut in Australia recently. High Harmony is a full sister to Listed winner and group placed HIppopus, and a half-sister to group placed winner Mapmaker. “She’s potentially the dark horse of the draft. She was bought in Australia as a weanling by clients of ours and has grown into a lovely big scopey filly who will suit the local market, meaning she’s the staying type of horse buyers coming to New Zealand are looking for.”
In book two, the highlight is three colts by emerging successful sire Proisir (Choisir). “Proisir can’t do a thing wrong at the moment, and these are three lovely types by him.” Proisir picked up both the New Zealand Guineas races this season with Pier winning the 2000 Guineas and Legarto remaining unbeaten when winning the 1000 Guineas. Proisir now has four Gr1 winners, with the other two being 2022 Gr1 Tarzino Trophy winner Dark Destroyer and 2022 Gr1 Telegraph Stakes and Gr1 Waikato Sprint winner Levante. Recent The Gong winner (and previously second in the Gr1 George Main Stakes to Verry Elleegant) Riodini is among Proisir’s other six stakes winners.
Seaton Park’s three Proisir colts include Lot 721 who is out of winning O’Reilly mare Cristal Heights and is from the same family as Lot 680 who is the first foal of Blushing Heights, a half-sister to Gr3 winner Supreme Heights. This is the family of five-time Gr1 winner Sky Heights, Mapperley Heights, Rising Heights, and Royal Heights. Their other Proisir colt is Lot 978, and he is the third foal of a Savabeel mare whose winning dam is out of a half-sister to Gr1 winner Danestorm.
Dual Gr1 winner Ace High’s oldest crop are two year-olds, and Seaton Park will present two of his season crop yearlings. Lot 873 is a colt, the second foal of a half-sister to Ististar, who won ten races including four at black type level led by the Gr3 Cuddle Stakes. Lot 651 is a colt, who is the second foal of winning mare All Razzle Dazzle, who is a half-sister to group placed winner Illinois Girl and this colt’s third dam is the tough Listed winner of seven races Faithful Thought, dam of two stakes winners. “He’s stunning. A big walking colt with plenty of presence.”
Gr1 winner Vanbrugh has sired an outstanding percentage of stakes horses and is emerging as a sire of real talent from very few opportunities. From only 34 named foals, Vanbrugh has already left Gr1 winner Mustang Valley, Gr2 winner Wild Night, and Listed winner Sheez Dominant. Vanbrugh’s filly, Lot 945, is out of a three-quarter sister to dual Gr1 winner Monaco Consul.
First season sire, Royal Meeting, has a colt, Lot 906, who is the second foal of Gr2 placed winner of five races Nahema (Per Incanto), who is a half-sister to Gr3 winner Hammer Down from the family of Gr1 winner Plume and Maco’reilly.
Reliable Man’s filly, Lot 942, is out of winning mare Pushtheboundaries, who is a daughter of Gr1 winner Honor Bound, granddam of stakes winner Alibi and Honorable Spirit.
Other sires represented in the Seaton Park draft are Contributer (665), El Roca (734), Ocean Park (955), Reliable Man (942), Ribchester (957), Time Test (666 and 931), and Vadamos (950).
An outstanding offering from one of New Zealand’s most respected farms for Karaka 2023.
