Creating an environment that minimises stress on horses is important to us at Bhima – we achieve this through their environment, by keeping their daily routine on track and by ensuring each horse is on a tightly scrutinised nutrition programme.”
Since Mike and Kate Fleming purchased Bhima seven years ago, the brand has been positioned as the premier vendor of yearlings for both breeders and buyers. This reputation has been enhanced by their graduate record, with the farm responsible for selling a Gr1 winner for three successive Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sales – a stunning record by any measure.
In 2022 the elite graduate record from Bhima hit new heights, with four individual Gr1 winners coming from Bhima sale drafts. To add some sugar, GSA Bloodstock’s crack three year-old sprinter Giga Kick (Scissor Kick), a horse who spent his formative days between Bhima and Arrowfield, then took out The Everest. The most recent Bhima Gr1 winner is 2022 VRC Derby winner Manzoice (Almanzor).
With the goal of expanding their client success – on the track and in the ring – Bhima has upgraded their farm facilities, building a new yearling barn, and ensuring their property is the best place to grow out young horses and showcase them for the market. And this attention
to detail and investment is borne out in their results with an impressive list of graduates in the past twelve months.
“It’s an impressive yearling complex, representative of the high quality of bloodstock our clients entrust us with selling each year,” said Mike Fleming, of the new 39-box structure.
“We are proud to be able to offer these facilities to our clients. It’s been built with all modern safety advances, to ensure our yearlings can have the smoothest preparation period possible. There’s no doubt that having facilities like this is more time effective for staff and more comfortable for the yearlings.”

In 2023, Bhima will present 32 quality yearlings by 22 different stallions, and with their graduate record being by a wide range of stallions – Almanzor, Scissor Kick, I Am Invincible, All Too Hard and Deep Field, buyers would be well-advised to inspect them all.
Last season’s Champion Sire I Am Invincible has two yearlings in the Bhima draft out of Galileo mares; this is the cross that has produced Gr1 winner Invincibella, while the Invincible Spirit – Galileo cross is responsible for five Gr1 winners including Coolmore stallion Magna Grecia.
The first, a filly, Lot 221, out of a Galileo half-sister to High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells) comes from a very deep European family. The colt, Lot 489, is the second foal of winning mare Tiberias (Galileo) who is a half-sister to dual Gr1 winner Silasol.
Bhima will present three yearlings by Champion Sire Written Tycoon; Lot 905 is a colt out of dual Listed winner (of eight races) Golden Penny, while Lot 722 is a filly who is the second foal of Gr3 winner China Star, from the family of Dissident. Gr3 David Coles Stakes winner Maximillius (Written Tycoon) has a full brother, Lot 340, and he is superbly bred, being out of Gr2 winning two year-old and Gr1 placed Scandiva, who is a half-sister to Gr1 winner Magnus, Group winner Wilander, Listed winner Arctic Flight, as well as to the dam of Black Caviar and All Too Hard, and to the dam of Ole Kirk and Gimmie Par.
Other sires with yearlings in the Bhima draft include Brazen Beau, Deep Field, Fastnet Rock, Per Incanto, So You Think, Star Turn and Toronado. First and second crop sires represented include Blue Point, Castelvecchio, Magna Grecia, Super Seth, The Autumn Sun, and Too Darn Hot, amongst others.
The Bhima youngsters will be available for inspection in Stable Q and Mike Fleming had the last word, “Please come and inspect our high quality draft, there will be something to suit in all price ranges.”
