Portland Sky won the Oakleigh Plate-Gr1 as a three year-old against the older horses. Only five three year-olds have won the Oakleigh Plate-Gr1 in the last twenty years; Portland Sky, Starspangledbanner, Weekend Hussler, Snitzel, and Fastnet Rock. Debuting as a three year-old, Portland Sky won four of his eight starts at that age, adding two Gr3 wins to his Gr1 win, as well as placing in the William Reid Stakes-Gr1. Back at four, he placed at group level before being retired with four wins from ten starts.
Deep Field retired to stud with much fanfare as the full brother to Caulfield Guineas-Gr1 winner Shooting To Win. Noted as one of the fastest horses to retire to stud, Deep Field set a class record in his debut win, then later broke the track record over 1100m at Canterbury. And he’s fulfilling that promise with two Gr1 winners to date, the other being Hong Kong Sprint-Gr1 winner Sky Field. Deep Field already has 13 stakes winners from only four crops of racing age.

Portland Sky is the second foal of Sky Rumba who is a half-sister to dual Listed winner London Line, who also ran fourth in the Western Australian Guineas-Gr2, while London Line’s dam, group placed winner Sweepshot is the dam of triple Gr1 winner Scenic Shot.
During his races, Portland Sky proved his class and speed, and showed plenty of tenacity when attacking the winning post. He’s exactly the type of sprinter who could provide a good cross to all the Danehill lines mares in the Australian population.
